In almost all regions SMS sending by businesses is highly regulated by authorities to protect consumers and network from un-wanted and large volume spam messages.

Each country has it's own requirements for enabling business SMS sending, typically verification is simple and takes less than 48 hours to complete.

In most cases verification involves identifying yourself and your business.

How SMS works in Gymflow

A few things to set expectations before you enable SMS:

  • SMS is outbound only. If a customer replies to a Gymflow SMS, the reply does not come back into Gymflow. Phrase your messages so customers know to call you, email you, or visit in person rather than text back.

  • Sender ID is a phone number, not your business name. When verification completes, the SMS provider assigns a phone number for your club's outbound traffic. In most regions customers will see that number β€” not a custom sender name.

  • Top-up alone doesn't activate sending. SMS credit only becomes spendable after the regional verification form below has been submitted and approved (typically 3-5 business days). Topping up before verification is fine, but messages won't send until the carrier approves.

Understand Your Obligations

Customers in most countries typically have the right to opt from un-wanted SMS unless it's strictly account related.

Gymflow helps you manage this by given each user the ability to manage their marketing permission for SMS from their notifications settings in their profile (accessible via the members app).

When you send SMS for marketing purchase you simply state that marketing is purpose and Gymflow will exclude those who have opted out by default.

To send an account related notification to all just ensure marketing is set to no.

If your phone number assigned to your club receives to many complaints of spam your SMS capabilities could be revoked by the carrier.
